Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard announced today that Stubbs & Perdue, P.A. has agreed to sponsor a group of Campbell Law student advocates at the prestigious Duberstein Moot Court Competition. The firm’s gift will provide financial assistance for the student’s preparation, travel, and lodging as they compete, March 2-4, in New York City.
The team is made up of two third-year law students —Reghan Schmidt and Grant Simpkins— and is coached by Margaret Westbrook, who is a partner at K&L Gates, along with Pam McAfee, who is the staff attorney for Judge Joseph Callaway in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina and teaches the bankruptcy survey course.
“Stubbs & Perdue has been a fabulous supporter of our advocacy program, and we are extremely appreciative of the firm’s decision to assist our students for another year,” said Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard. “This opportunity will be immensely beneficial for our students, and will give our first-rate advocacy program even more national exposure.”
The Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition is widely recognized as one of the nation’s preeminent moot court competitions, promoting and recognizing the finest oral and written advocacy on significant issues in bankruptcy practice. Approximately 60 law school teams participate, making it the largest single site appellate moot court competition. The competition culminates in a gala awards dinner at the banquet at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel in Manhattan. The dinner draws more than 1,000 attendees, including many leading bankruptcy judges and practitioners.
