Reunions, concerts, sports and a parade mark Homecoming 2012

BUIES CREEK – A full slate of athletics, reunions, concerts and, of course, a parade will mark Homecoming 2012 at Campbell University. The celebration will begin Wednesday night with a bonfire in Saylor Park and will culminate Saturday when Campbell’s football team hosts Davidson at Barker-Lane Stadium.

WEDNESDAY

BONFIRE, 7 p.m.

This year’s bonfire at Saylor Park will feature a 90s theme, with music from that era and all the flannel you can handle. The night will include the fire-lighting ceremony, roasted pig and other great food, eating contests, games and more.
 

THURSDAY

HOMECOMING DANCE, 9 p.m.

Carter Gymnasium will house this year’s Homecoming Dance. This Campbell University tradition that spans decades, like all events during the week, is planned by the Alumni Office, Student Activities Office and Student Entertainment Division of the Student Government Association.
 

FRIDAY

DISTINGUISHED ALUMNI DINNER, 6 p.m.

Annually, the University recognizes alumni who have distinguished themselves in their professional careers and in their service to their Alma Mater. Campbell University will induct Dr. Wesley “Trey” Waters III, Cecilia Gregory, Dr. Mikeal C. Parsons, William A. Pully and Mary Catherine Hall as Distinguished Alumni at the dinner. Seating in the Alumni Room of Marshbanks Dining Hall is limited. Reservations are required. Cost is $15 a person. ‘SEUSSICAL THE MUSICAL’, 7 p.m.

Enjoy a family friendly musical as the Cat in the Hat takes you on a magical journey with many of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters in Ellis Theatre. Those who miss the Friday show can catch Saturday’s performance at 3 p.m. Cost is $3 for children, students or seniors. General admission is $7. Call (910) 893-1509.

WHO’S BAD, MICHAEL JACKSON TRIBUTE BAND, 8 p.m.

Join The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band as it performs music from the King of Pop’s four-decade music career at the John W. Pope Convocation Center. Cost is $10 a person.
 

SATURDAY

WOMEN’S SWIMMING TEAM, 10 a.m.

Campbell’s women’s swimming team will host North Florida and N.C. A&T at the Aquatics Center Saturday morning.

GOLDEN CLUB REUNION BRUNCH, 10:30 a.m.

Campbell will celebrate the 50th reunion of the Class of 1962 in the Alumni Room of Marshbanks Dining Hall. Registration is required. MEMORIAL SERVICE, 11 a.m.

The University would like to invite you to attend the Homecoming Memorial Service remembering the lives of alumni, trustees, presidential advisors, faculty, staff and friends that have passed away the past year. The service will be held in Butler Chapel. HOMECOMING PARADE, 2 p.m.

Watch distinguished alumni, current student clubs and groups as well as local entities as they parade through Buies Creek displaying their Campbell Pride. The parade will travel from the Fine Arts parking lot to the Convocation Center.

MEN’S SOCCER, 3:30 p.m.

A celebration of the men’s soccer program’s 50th season will build up to the Camel’s home game against Presbyterian College at Eakes Athletic Complex. Cost is $5. Students, faculty/staff and children get in free. The celebration begins Friday at 1 p.m. with the Men’s Soccer Alumni Golf Outing at Keith Hills Country Club. CLASS OF ’87, ’02, 4 p.m.

The 25th and 10th reunions for the Classes of 1987 and 2002 will be held in the Alumni Tent near Barker Lane Stadium two hours before kickoff. Come and celebrate, renew friendships, share college stories and reacquaint yourself with Campbell University at a pre-game barbecue for members of these classes. PHARMACY ALUMNI TAILGATE, 4 p.m.

All College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends are invited to enjoy Cooper’s BBQ with all the fixins. Student organization booths will be on hand to showcase their activities, as well as corn hole boards to enjoy pre-game festivities with your friends. PRE-GAME ENTERTAINMENT, 4-6 p.m.

Celebrate, with music and fun for the entire family at the Coke Stage in the tailgating area, and a chance to win prizes from Coke. A Kids Zone featuring a bounce house and slides will be there for the kids, and free camel rides will be offered beginning at 5 p.m. near the football field house.

FOOTBALL GAME, 6 p.m.
