Business School hosts interactive workshop for middle school educators

A workshop hosted by the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, School of Education, and College of Arts and Sciences is helping middle school educators learn new lessons and activities to teach standards-based social studies content. Organized by the North Carolina Council on Economic Education (NCCEE), the August 10 workshop will give teachers a refresher and new information on government and economic systems, cost and benefits of trade, building wealth and the most high-demand jobs in the state. 
 
The workshop is open to all North Carolina teachers, and a one hundred dollar stipend is provided to teachers who attend the full day. Conducted by NCCEE Executive Director Sandy Wheat and Amber Thomas, the event is also supported by the Admissions Office and Wiggins Memorial Library. By the end of the sessions, attending teachers will have earned a certificate for seven hours of professional development, and will receive access to lesson plans and digital resources discussed during the event. 


Campbell’s Center for Financial Literacy and Economic Education (CFLEE) has hosted similar events in conjunction with NCCEE. Housed at the Business School, CFLEE helps deliver programs to K-12 schools and educators. The Center’s mission is to promote financial literacy and economic education in greater Harnett County and surrounding regions.

“I am glad to see the return of ‘teaching the teachers’ workshop series after two years hiatus,” said business professor Shahriar Mostashari. “Given the wholehearted support of our partner schools and programs on campus to promote financial literacy and economic education in Harnett and surrounding counties, I foresee a healthy expansion of similar daylong and 5-day residential programs on our campuses.”

 
Interactive and hands-on activities will begin at 8:30 a.m. following registration and breakfast. Participants are asked to bring a laptop or tablet to follow along with programming. A light lunch will be included, and there is no cost for attendance. More information and registration can be found here.
