RALEIGH – The 2021 Richard A. Lord Moot Court Competition champions are Wallace Driggers ’23 and Tia Overway ’23, members of the Old Kivett Advocacy Council announced on Oct. 2.
The Old Kivett Advocacy Council is a student organization comprised of about 15 second-year and third-year students that organizes internal Campbell Law advocacy competitions each year.
The Rick Edmundson Award, given to the Best Overall Advocate of the semi-final and final rounds, was also won by Driggers. Best Brief recognition went to Emily Almanza ’23, who competed individually throughout the entire competition over weekend.
“The success and effectiveness of the 2021 Richard A. Lord Moot Court Competition was the result of such tremendous work and dedication by our Old Kivett Advocacy Council,” said Director of Competitive Advocacy Tatiana Terry.
“This year, nearly 25 students competed and Wallace Driggers, Tia Spears, Amber King and Rebecca Pierce advanced as finalists,” Terry said.
Summer Combs, Wallace Public Service Fellow who assists with advocacy competitions, echoed Terry’s sentiments. Combs also had the opportunity to judge a semi-final round.
“I was so impressed by the preparation and performance of the 2L students,” Combs said. “Their dedication and commitment did not go unnoticed.”
Terry added, “This year the competition was able to resume in-person oral arguments and the excellent organization of the competition by the Council is a testament to their hard work and professionalism.”
