Buies Creek, N.C.—The roar of a home football game, the aroma of roasting hot dogs just seem to embody fall. Another fall tradition visitors won’t want to miss is the Campbell University Homecoming weekend, Oct. 29-30, with a special appearance by Miss North Carolina 2010 Adrienne Leigh Core.
Core will participate in the Homecoming Parade on Saturday and attend pre-game tailgating in Burkot Parking Lot. She will also be on hand to attend the game, the Pre-Game Coin Toss and the crowning of Campbell’s Harvest Queen at half-time.
There is a cornucopia of activities leading up to the game, however. Playersmay register online for the Homecoming Golf Tournament, scheduled for 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, by going to www.GoCamels.com. Entry fee includes lunch, drinks and green and cart fees. At 6 p.m. on Friday, Campbell goes up against the Kennesaw State University volleyball team in the Gore Arena, followed by an Orange/Black basketball scrimmage.
Special events planned for Campbell alumni include the Distinguished Alumni dinner set for Friday at 6 p.m. in the Alumni Room of Marshbanks Dining Hall; a reunion for law school classes 1980, ‘85, ‘90, ‘95, ‘00 and ’05, at the Campbell University Law School in Raleigh at 7 p.m. on Friday; and the Golden Club Reunion, celebrating the Class of 1960, on Saturday, Oct. 30, at 4 p.m. in the Alumni Room of Marshbanks Dining Hall. Also on Saturday, the 20th annual Government, History and Justice Alumni Brunch in D. Rich and the reception honoring Dr. Margaret Giesbrecht, former dean of the School of Education at the Campbell House, will be held.
The Homecoming Parade, led by former educator and Campbell benefactor Sadie Neal, kicks off at 10 a.m., followed by a pre-game
barbecue luncheon at 11 a.m. and a memorial service at Butler Chapel. Then at 1 p.m., the Fighting Camels take on Marist at Barker-Lane Stadium.
Later in the day, volleyball in the Gore Arena and a Men’s Soccer game at Eakes Soccer Field cap off the final evening of Campbell’s 2010 Homecoming weekend. For more information or to make reservations, call 910.893.1238.
