Campbell University’s School of Engineering received a $2,500 check on Tuesday from Terracon Consultants, a national engineering consulting firm that specializes in environmental, geotechnical, facilities and materials services.
The Terracon Foundation — a philanthropic arm of the company that has granted nearly $4 million to universities, community organizations and disaster relief efforts — donated the funds to the School’s Campbell Society of Women Engineers Student Section, supporting more than a dozen young women who will attend the annual Society of Women Engineers Conference in Los Angeles in October.
Carl Bonner, an office manager and principal for Terracon’s Winterville Greenville, N.C., facility and the father of Engineering sophomore Dantzler Bonner, applied for the grant, keeping with the foundation’s mission to support education and equity.
“We are so grateful to the Terracon Foundation and Mr. Bonner for their support of our Society of Women Engineers students,” said Dr. Jenna Carpenter, dean for the School of Engineering. “The annual conference provides them with fantastic opportunities to learn about the wide range of employment options in engineering, as well as secure internships and full-time jobs at the huge career fair. There are also many great professional development opportunities for students to hear from a variety of experts and role models in engineering.”
Students and Campbell Society of Women Engineers officers present at the check presentation Tuesday included senior SWE President Madison Wells, senior SWE Vice President Georgia Yeargin, junior SWE Secretary Celia Clark and junior SWE Secretary Savannah Bell.
