RALEIGH — Twenty-one recent Campbell Law School graduates participated in the annual swearing-in ceremony at the law school on Friday, Oct. 6, hosted by the Campbell Law Alumni Association.
The Honorable Paul Ridgeway, a 1986 Campbell Law graduate and N.C. Superior Court judge, and the Honorable Damion McCullers, a 2003 Campbell Law graduate and Wake County District Court judge, administered the oath of office and led the swearing-in of Campbell Law alumni who passed the July 2023 North Carolina Bar Examination.
McCullers told the group, “Two things about a camel: a camel can carry up to 900 pounds for at least 9 hours and that tells me you are prepared to carry the load, you are prepared to do the work … the other thing about a camel, the camel carries the water by the shape of its cells. What does that tell me? That tells me that internally, you have everything you need. You are built to do this. As a Campbell Camel, you have internally everything you need to succeed … so go be great.”
He added, “Please ask the questions, get a mentor and you will be all the better for it.”
Bo Walker, a 2006 Campbell Law graduate, representing the Campbell Law Alumni Association, and Vice Dean Raven Byrne, a 2006 Campbell Law graduate, gave the welcome and opening remarks followed by Kayla Britt and Will Robertson, representing the North Carolina Bar Association, and Judge Ashleigh Parker and James Hash ‘08, representing the Wake County Bar Association.
Byrne said, “Today is a launching pad…you all are going to take many different paths in your legal career but I hope that you always remember what it means to be a Campbell lawyer. We at Campbell Law strive to produce lawyers that use the practice of law to create a more just society. We want you to be compassionate lawyers who are fully prepared for the challenges ahead…my prayer is that you will be servant leaders and that you would put service before status and that you strive to do all things with excellence. We welcome you to our Alumni Association with open arms!”

The ceremony offered graduates the opportunity to be sworn in as attorneys with the North Carolina State Bar at their alma mater with their family, friends, professors, classmates and peers encouraging them and sharing the occasion. Each graduate took the oath of office as an attorney at law to support the Constitution of the United States.
“The annual swearing-in ceremony is one of our favorite events because it’s the final destination on a long and challenging educational and professional journey,” said Campbell Law Assistant Dean of External Relations Megan West Sherron ‘10. “It’s also the beginning of a new career in the legal profession, and it means a great deal to the administration, faculty and staff that every year so many of our alumni return home to share this special occasion with us.”
A reception was held following the ceremony.
