Buies Creek, N.C.-The numbers are in and Campbell University’s intramural athletic field is one of 100 finalists across the country to be selected to compete in the Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes “Plant a Seed” program. Committed to rebuilding athletic fields used by the entire community, the “Plant a Seed” program will award $15,000 to each of 30 schools around the nation selected for improvements and upgrades to their field complexes.
The 30 grand prize winners will be given an athletic field makeover at the sponsor’s discretion based upon consultation with field makeover experts and consistent with Kellogg’s Worldwide Marketing Communications Guidelines and the Council of Better Business Bureau’s Children’s Food and Beverage Initiative. Odds of winning depend on the total number of public votes the 100 finalists receive.
Harnett County citizens and the Campbell community can vote for the university’s intramural field by going directly to the Kellogg’s Web site at http://www.frostedflakes.com, and clicking on “Plant a Seed” in the bottom left hand corner. Visitors to the site can vote once per day per email address until June 1st, when the second round of the contest is completed.
According to Andy Shell, director of Campus Recreation, Campbell’s intramural field supports up to 3,000 college students and a rigorous summer camp program that has been known to serve as many as 5,000 K-12 students. The field has no storage facilities, restrooms, bleechers, lights or fences necessary to accommodate athletes and needs to be leveled in order to support existing intramural and community sports, as well as create a place for other sports to be played. The field’s restoration will provide proper facilities not only to help Campbell athletics, but athletic programs in Harnett County and the surrounding areas.
