RALEIGH – Campbell Law School will once again host the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA) Minorities in the Profession Pre-Law Conference on Saturday, March 16, 2024, Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development April Giancola has announced.
The free event, which is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., is designed for high school and college students, as well as paralegals, who are considering or planning to attend law school. While the event is free, registration is required at this link by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 13.
Attendees will participate in a mock law school class, interact with law school deans and admissions counselors, speak with current law students and learn about various career paths for lawyers. Topics include navigating the admission process, how to finance law school and jobs after law school. Breakfast and lunch will be provided, according to organizers.
The agenda for “Balancing the Scales: Is law school the right fit?” can be found at this link.
Executive Director of Emancipate NC Dawn Blagrove will be the keynote speaker. As a graduate of Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) and N.C. Central School of Law, Blagrove has emerged as a leading voice in North Carolina, demanding an end to mass incarceration and the dismantling of systemic and institutional racism. Blagrove was also recognized by Gov. Roy Cooper as a subject matter expert for consultation with the N.C. Taskforce on Racial Equity in Criminal Justice. Before her time with Emancipate NC, Dawn was a post-conviction attorney with N.C. Prisoner Legal Services, litigating issues surrounding criminal post-conviction relief.
