Second-year students compete in the 2024 Rick A. Lord Moot Court Competition

RALEIGH — Twenty-seven second-year Campbell Law School students competed in the 2024 Richard A. Lord Moot Court Competition hosted by The Old Kivett Advocacy Council on Sept. 26-28.  

The Old Kivett Advocacy Council is a student organization that organizes internal Campbell Law advocacy competitions each year. First-year students volunteered as bailiffs and time-keepers. Campbell Law alumni and faculty served as Justices for the competition.

This year’s champions are Darren Stephens ’26 and Robert Massey ’26.

Finalists in the competition were Emily Jacobsen ’26 and Nicole Ohannesian ’26.

Amy Bernhard ’26 and Natalie Johnson ’26 were awarded the recognition of Best Brief. The Best Brief runners-up included Thomas Lotito ’26 and William Alfonso ’26.

The Rick Edmundson Award, given to the Best Overall Advocate of the semi-final and final rounds, was awarded to Stephens.

Semi-finalists included George Dryer ’26, Shane Knight ’26, Lotito and Alfonso.

“The success and effectiveness of the 2024 Richard A. Lord Moot Court Competition was the result of such tremendous work and dedication by our Old Kivett Advocacy Council, especially Moot Court Chair Akram Hauter ’25 and President Aleea Winston ’25,” said Director of Competitive Advocacy Mary Ann Matney ’17. “I want to thank all of those who judged competition rounds and volunteered to make this weekend a prosperous learning experience for our advocates.”

Winston added, “The Old Kivett Advocacy Council sincerely appreciates the volunteers who helped to ensure the success of the competition.”
