Campbell University third-year medical student Dr. Asia-La’Rae Walker has earned a 2025 STFM Foundation Student Scholarship from the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and she will participate in the 2025 STFM Conference on Medical Student Education.

This highly competitive scholarship is awarded to some of the best and brightest medical students from across the country, the Foundation says in a news release. In addition to recognizing a strong commitment to academic family medicine through scholastic, volunteer and leadership pursuits, the award acknowledges the recipient’s strong potential for a career in academic medicine, the release says.

Twenty awards were given for 2025.

Dr. Afolake Mobolaji is chair of the 2025 STFM Conference on Medical Student Education.

“The 2025 Medical Student Education Steering Committee congratulates Asia-La’Rae Walker, and the Jerry M. Wallace Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine” Mobolaji said.

All STFM Foundation recipients receive free registration to attend and present a poster at the 2025 STFM Conference on Medical Student Education, scheduled Jan. 30 to Feb. 2, 2025, in San Antonio, Texas.

Walker plans to present a poster titled: “Examining Hyperinsulinemia’s Impact on Weight Change: Findings from a Systematic Literature Review.”

STFM is a national community of academic leaders committed to developing a family medicine workforce prepared to serve as the foundation of America’s health care system, the release says. STFM members include physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, behavioral health specialists, researchers, nurses, health system executives, administrators, fellows, residents, students and others involved in the education of family physicians.
