Orange Pen Award highlights outstanding contributions

The Orange Pen Award is a distinguished honor given to Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences’ faculty and staff who embody the Campbell spirit by going above and beyond to coach, recognize, and fill needs within the community.

This year, two recipients were celebrated for their remarkable contributions: Charissa English and Dr. David Tillman.

Charissa English
A Pillar of Support and Creativity

Dean of the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences (CPHS), Dr. Jeff Mercer, presented the Orange Pen Award to Charissa English, Doctor of Physical Therapy Program Coordinator.

“Charissa is an invaluable member of our team, always ready to lend a hand and make a difference in countless ways,” Mercer said. “Whether it’s capturing photos at an event, posting on social media, designing thoughtful birthday cards for the Dean’s office, or leading meetings in prayer, she consistently goes above and beyond to support and uplift our community.”

English’s dedication to excellence extends across her roles in the Physical Therapy program and communications and marketing efforts. Her willingness to assist wherever needed exemplifies her passion for the success of the entire Campbell community.

“Her unwavering commitment to excellence and her genuine care for others has left a lasting impact on our faculty, staff, and students,” Mercer shared. “We are truly grateful for her passion, leadership, and the positive influence she brings to everything she does.”

Dr. David Tillman
A Visionary Leader in Public Health

Dr. David Tillman, chair of the Department of Public Health, was also honored with the Orange Pen Award for his profound impact on the Campbell community and beyond.

“Dr. Tillman’s leadership, vision, and unwavering commitment to community service have made a significant difference in the lives of our faculty, staff, and students,” said Mercer. “As chair of the Department of Public Health, he played a pivotal role in the success of the inaugural Camels Care CommUNITY Days, uniting more than 350 volunteers for service projects across six counties.”

Tillman’s efforts in organizing events such as an overdose awareness vigil and MedFest for Special Olympics athletes exemplify Campbell’s mission to serve the underserved. His work has not only brought people together but also created meaningful connections and support networks.

“Beyond Camels Care CommUNITY Days, Dr. Tillman has expanded Campbell University’s reach on both state and national levels,” Mercer noted. “His ability to share the impactful work of our faculty, students, and programs has elevated Campbell’s reputation as a leader in public health and community engagement.”

Through building partnerships and fostering dialogue, Tillman has positioned Campbell as a beacon of service and excellence. His efforts continue to inspire others to join the mission of improving lives and addressing critical health challenges.
