RALEIGH — Campbell Law School Clinical Professor Richard A. Waugaman III ’12 has been chosen among North Carolina Lawyers Weekly’s most recent “Leaders in the Law” along with several alumni.
Also chosen among the “Leaders in the Law” are Chad W. Essick ’06 of Poyner Spruill and Gene Bradley Tanner ’07 of Parker Bryan Family Law. Leaders in the Law are members of the bar who have made important contributions to the practice of law in the state and to the local legal community and/or the community at larger, according to the publication.
Among the aLegal Phenoms, or those with 10 years or less in their legal practice, are Campbell Law alumni classmates Nichad Davis ‘19 and Kaitlyn E. Fudge ’19, both of the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin, and Audrey Z. Snyder ‘17 of Ward Black.
In addition are Legal News Makers, lawyers who have handled cases or spearheaded legislation that has made new law in North Carolina in 2024. Among Campbell Law alumni are Tom Harvey ’22, James T. Moore Jr. ’08 and Gary K. Shipman ’80, all of Shipman and Wright in Wilmington and Christopher Olson ’94 of Olson Law.
Waugaman joined the Campbell Law School faculty in July 2021 after nine years in private practice. He is the director of the Gailor Family Law Litigation Clinic, which provides legal representation for disadvantaged members of the Wake County community on a variety of family law issues. Prior to Campbell Law, Waugaman was the managing partner at Lesnik Family Law, a boutique Wake County firm providing family law representation and legal services predominantly to victims of domestic violence. He handled child custody, child support, spousal support, equitable distribution, domestic violence protective orders, termination of parental rights and other family law cases. He is also a former certified Family Financial Mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission and a Parenting Coordinator. He earned his J.D. ’12 cum laude from Campbell Law School and his B.A. ’09 summa cum laude from Campbell University.
