Campbell to hold winter graduation exercises

Campbell University will confer 587 degrees at winter graduation ceremonies held Dec. 14-15.Dr. Roy DeBrand, Professor of Preaching for the Campbell Divinity School, will deliver the commencement address at the hooding ceremonies for the Graduate and Professional program on Friday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m.; and Baptist leader Dr. Jesse J. Croom will be the keynote speaker at two undergraduate exercises on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. All three services will be held in Turner Auditorium on the Campbell campus.Serving as president of the Council of Christian Higher Education for the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina since 2006, Dr. Jesse Croom has been involved in Baptist life as both pastor and leader for several decades. He’s held other convention leadership positions, including chairman of the Institutions Relations Study Committee, member of the Committee on Nominations and vice chairman of the Board of Directors of the Baptist news journal, the “Biblical Recorder.” Croom received a Bachelor of Arts from Wake Forest University and Bachelor of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.Dr. Roy DeBrand holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Corpus Christi, Texas, and a Master of Divinity, and two doctorates from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. His fields of interest are homiletics, the New Testament and systematic theology. DeBrand is the author of numerous articles and six books, including “Why Go to Church?” published by Baker Book House.
