Senior Graphic Design major, Emily Simpson, of Rutherfordton, N.C., grabbed a cash prize of $50 from the Campbell University’s Theatre Arts Department for her winning poster advertising this year’s fall musical “Little Women.” Directed by Professor Georgia Martin, the musical is based on the book of the same name by Louisa May Alcott. The musical performances are set for Oct.19-20 and 25-27.”This collaboration between Theatre Arts and the Art Department has proven very successful,” said Daniel Rodgers, professor of Graphic Design. “I enjoy the fact that it gives students the opportunity to compete and potentially have professionally printed pieces for their portfolio.”The poster design is showcased in the Harnett County area and includes billboard displays for the run of the play. It will also be displayed campus-wide. Meanwhile, visitors can view the work of the participants, as well as work from previous semesters in the Graphic Design Student Exhibition in the E.P. Sauls Gallery of the Fine Arts Center. This year’s exhibition focuses on visual communication from Graphic Design classes I, II and III and typography. The exhibit includes self-promotional and free lance work as well.”The work continues to get stronger and much more competitive,” Rodgers said. “This design competition and the exhibition are great preparation for the professional environment. We have students who have been or are currently working in advertising agencies, corporate design departments, professional design shops, graduate programs and some who successfully manage their own design businesses.”The Graphic Design student exhibition, including poster designs for “Little Women,” will run through Oct. 30.
