Campbell music program receives grants from fine arts organizations

The Campbell University music program has received grants in the amount of $10,000 from both the Harnett County Arts Council and the Cape Fear Friends of the Fine Arts organizations. Awards of $8,000 from the Arts Council and $2,000 from the Cape Fear Friends will be used to expand the children’s music program at Campbell to include a year-round children’s choir.”For the past nine years, children from Harnett County have enjoyed a week-long music day-camp, the Campbell Children’s Choir Camp or C4, for gifted students,” said Dr. Phillip Morrow, director of Choral Activities for Campbell. “The grants will allow Campbell to develop our program for gifted music students and provide a special opportunity for students who might want to pursue a music degree or career in music such as teacher, performer or Minister of Music.”Morrow and his wife Susan direct the C4 camp with the support of Dr. Ran Whitley, chair of the Fine Arts Division, and Harnett County music teacher Kathy Sutter. The camp curriculum includes choral and vocal instruction, choral rehearsals, vocal productions and instruction in hand chime and recorder instruments. According to Morrow, the year-round Children’s Choir will include the same instructional objectives.”The Campbell University Department of Music takes very seriously the role it plays in educating future music leaders,” said Morrow. “We want students to come to Buies Creek and make a connection between who they are now as young musicians and the professional musicians they can become.”For more information regarding the Campbell Children’s Choir Camp and the Campbell Children’s Choir, call the Fine Arts Office at 910.893.1495 or 800.334.4111, ext. 1495.Photo Copy: Dr. Phillip Morrow, director of Choral Activities for Campbell University, conducts the Campbell Children’s Choir.
