At the recent HIV/AIDS awareness Gospel Explosion fundraiser Dr. Edward Fubara, assistant professor at Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, received a plaque from the Multicultural Council expressing the Council’s appreciation for his work on the event. “Never one to leave a job undone” it reads in part. The plaque was presented by the chair of the Multicultural Council, Dr. Vikki Armstrong.”I suppose I received this award because of the time, effort and expense that I put into the HIV/AIDS awareness event,” said Fubara. “However, I didn’t really expect it. I was just doing my job so to speak.”The Multicultural Council is a university committee of faculty and students designed to raise awareness on issues of cultural diversity on campus.”We are tasked to develop activities that promote this end, to provide support for students from underrepresented minority groups and to review grievances related to ethnic diversity,” said Fubara. The HIV/AIDS Awareness Gospel Explosion is a project that was developed by the Student National Pharmaceutical Association (SNPhA).”This event not only raises awareness of the devastating impact of the disease but it is also one of the only events that commemorates Black History Month here at Campbell,” said Fubara. “Unfortunately, diseases like HIV/AIDS have a disproportionate impact on the Black community so it is quite appropriate for these future health professionals to target it during Black History Month. This year the event featured award winning national recording artists RiZen, along with Radical Praise, the East Carolina University gospel choir and the Campbell New Vision Gospel Choir.”Fubara said hard work was put into the HIV/AIDS awareness Gospel Explosion and he couldn’t have done it alone.”Dr. Vikki Armstrong, adjunct professor and former Director of Assessment in the Pharmacy School, was the real driving force behind the Gospel Explosion and last month’s MLK Day of Service,” said Fubara. “She is the one who really deserves the awards.”The Multicultural Council will continue to sponsor events that celebrate underrepresented minorities on campus.Photo Copy: Dr. Edward Fubara accepts award from Campbell’s Multicultural Council.
