The Inter-Faith Food Shuttle unveiled its 2007 public service ad campaign, designed by Campbell University communication students, Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 at the Matthews House in Cary.Under the supervision of Dr. Ed Johnson, professor of mass communication, students enrolled in the Capstone Seminar worked with the Ad Club of the Triangle to develop and implement a massive media campaign, which featured radio and television ads, billboards, bookmarks and flyers.Three teams of students were tasked with creating campaigns that would increase awareness of local hunger and the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle’s efforts to recruit volunteers and feed more hungry people in the greater Raleigh-Durham area. After one campaign idea was selected, students pooled their efforts to carry out the campaign, from concept to production.Inter-Faith Food Shuttle officials say they were thrilled with the students’ work.”It was the biggest effort I have ever seen and the best example of team work for the good of the client. They never thought of themselves, they only thought of what we need,” said Jill Staton Bullard, Founder and President of the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle. For students like James Ranieri, developing the campaign was more than a class assignment.”It was amazing to be a part of something that was real-life and get real experience outside of the classroom, but also something that was going to impact our community,” said Ranieri.Student Natalie Moore said the campaign gave her a better understanding of the business world.”We had the opportunity to work with people and make sure that we could bring everything that we could to the table and not expect other people to do it for us. It was a very good learning experience,” she said.Other creative professionals in The Ad Club of the Triangle donated their services to further the campaign, providing printing and production services, as well as ad space. Several local media outlets also donated air time for both radio and television spots.Photo Copy: Dr. Ed Johnson receives a plaque from the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle on behalf of the Capstone students from Campbell University.
