The Orange Pen Award recognizes College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences’ faculty and staff who exemplify the Campbell spirit and who consistently go above and beyond to support our community with compassion, excellence, and unwavering dedication. This year’s recipient, Jennifer Shewmaker, clinical coordinator in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, embodies these qualities in every aspect of her work.

As the DPT program implemented a new curriculum and responsibilities increased, Jennifer remained a steady, student-centered presence. She navigated the transition with professionalism and care, ensuring that learners received the guidance they needed and that our relationships with clinical partners continued to flourish.

Doctor of Physical Therapy Chair and Program Director Brad Myers shared:

“Jennifer has been a steadfast contributor to our experiential program for years. She has worked to develop strong personal relationships with our clinical partners. These relationships have been extremely important whenever a last-minute or unforeseen need for a replacement rotation arises. She can quickly reach out to her network of contacts and secure a high-quality placement within the day, often within hours. Her ability to leverage these relationships has been extremely important in supporting our students with the needed replacement but also keeping students on time for graduation while reducing the stress that comes with a clinical rotation that falls through.

“She has been a consistent team player working to support the needs of the DPT program and our students. During a period of turnover in our clinical education team, Jennifer ensured that each student received individualized attention and guidance as they navigated their experiences.”

CPHS Dean Dr. Jeff Mercer also praised Jennifer’s impact, saying:

“Jennifer’s commitment to our students and her dedication to building strong clinical partnerships are hallmarks of the Campbell mission. Her work strengthens not only the DPT program but the entire CPHS community, and we are deeply grateful for her steadfast leadership.”

Mercer said the Orange Pen Award is a distinguished honor presented to faculty and staff who exemplify the values of Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. Jennifer’s leadership, commitment, and heartfelt dedication make her profoundly deserving of this recognition.
