John Latteri has been named vice president for institutional advancement at Campbell University, President William M. Downs announced today.
Latteri had served as interim VP since September of last year. Prior, he was the director of development for the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law for three years.
President William M. Downs praised Latteri’s “exemplary work ethic” as interim, saying, “He understands what it means to be part of a results-focused leadership team, and he is committed to securing the funds Campbell requires to address current needs and to realize future dreams.”
Latteri said he was honored to receive the opportunity to continue serving the Campbell community.
“I am deeply grateful to Dr. Downs for entrusting me with this role, as well as to our entire Advancement team, who work tirelessly every day to advance Campbell’s mission,” he said. “Together, we will continue building on this strong foundation, fostering meaningful relationships and creating opportunities that ensure Campbell’s growth and success for years to come.”
A native of Peekskill, New York (north of NYC, along the Hudson River), Latteri earned his bachelor of arts in sports management from Towson University in Maryland. He began his career at his alma mater in various external relations roles and spent three years as the assistant director of athletic marketing at the U.S. Naval Academy. Before coming to Campbell, he served as a major gifts officer and then a director of major gifts for the Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was part of a team that raised more than $20 million in commitments for four straight years.
As part of the Campbell Law School team, nearly $7.5 million was raised for law school programming, student scholarships and special projects to advance the mission of the school. And during his short time as interim vice president for institutional advancement, Latteri oversaw two record-breaking Campbell Giving Day events, with more $1.3 million raised (from 2,382 donors) on Nov. 12 this year. He also led organizational efforts for Downs’ six-city Campbell Forward speaking tour, an introduction to Campbell alumni throughout the state.
Latteri earned his Masters in Trust & Wealth Management from Campbell in 2024.
“John knows that to move Campbell forward we must elevate our philanthropic ambitions, and we must coordinate efforts across all campus divisions to align with the most pressing institutional priorities,” Downs added.
“Building strong relationships with alumni, friends and supporters in the community is essential for Campbell’s success, and I’m confident that John has the acumen, the people skills and the inner drive to ensure that we hit — or exceed — our fundraising targets. I’m pleased to peel away the Interim tag and have John Latteri run full force with all the responsibilities that come with being vice president for institutional advancement at Campbell.”
