Med school is well represented on statewide Family Physician board

The Jerry M. Wallace School of Osteopathic Medicine is continuing its strong representation on the N.C. Academy of Family Physician (NCAFP) board of directors.

This December, student Dr. Ryan Taylor, a member of the class of 2026, and Dr. Robert Agnello, chair of Family Medicine, were installed to the board.

Agnello is the academic member, serving two years; Taylor as student director, a one-year term. Campbell alumnus Dr. Katherine Haga, a member of the med school class of 2018, was installed as an at-large-member, serving a three-year term.

“The NCAFP is the Old North state’s largest specialty medical association, with a membership of over 4,200 family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students,” the organization’s website says.

NCAFP represents the voice of all family medicine physicians in North Carolina, Agnello said.

“It is an honor to represent Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine in this role.”

Agnello, as the board’s academic member, is a voting member. The position is selected from medical school family medicine chairs and family medicine residency directors in North Carolina, representing the state’s family medicine institutions, Agnello said.

“I will serve as the voice of educational programs in the state, providing insight into medical education and research,” Agnello said. “I will have the opportunity to ensure active integration of the academic family medicine perspective into NCAFP leadership and decision-making.”

Originally chartered in 1948, the NCAFP is a federated chapter of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

“The purpose and mission of the NCAFP is to advance the specialty of family medicine to improve the health of patients, families and communities in North Carolina. The Academy works toward this vision most principally through its ongoing professional advocacy and medical education efforts, and also through its affiliated philanthropic organization, the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians Foundation,” the site says.
