Hugh Gordon Maxell, III, of Goldsboro, N.C., has been elected to the Campbell University Board of Trustees. Maxwell is owner and president of Goldsboro Milling Company. The company and its subsidiaries employ over 3,000 people and produce approximately 13 million turkeys and 1 million hogs annuallyA wildlife conservationist, Maxwell’s efforts have helped to increase the populations of ducks, quail, deer and other wildlife. He is a Campbell alumnus and the recipient of the 1995 Alumni Service Award for his contributions to Christian higher education and to his community. Maxwell also received Campbell’s prestigious Presidential Medallion, given to those individuals whose lives exemplify high moral values and integrity.A member of First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, Maxwell serves as chairman of the Finance Committee and as an usher. He is also active in his community, serving as chairman of the Wayne County Parade of Friends, a fundraising organization which helped toward the construction of Campbell’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business building.Maxwell has been a member of Campbell’s Presidential Board of Advisors and has served three previous terms as a trustee. He and his wife Charlotte are the parents of two daughters, Elizabeth Pelletier and Mildred Dysart. They have three grandchildren.
