CPHS celebrates student excellence in clinical research, pharmaceutical sciences

Two graduates from the Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences have been recognized for their exceptional academic achievement, dedication to their fields and commitment to advancing healthcare through research and innovation. Mabrey Marcom and Josue Gomez-Ruiz were honored for their accomplishments in clinical research and pharmaceutical sciences as they prepare to begin the next chapter of their professional journeys.


Clinical Research Outstanding Academic Performance Award

Mabrey Marcom received the Clinical Research Outstanding Academic Performance Award, presented to a student in the Bachelor of Science in Clinical Research program for exemplary character, academic performance and dedication to meaningful service. Recipients must maintain a core major GPA of at least 3.0 while demonstrating preparedness to lead purposeful lives and contribute to their communities.

Originally from Garner, North Carolina, Marcom devoted the past four years to her studies and involvement at Campbell. During her final spring semester, she completed an internship with the Clinical Research Institute at WakeMed, where she gained hands on experience and shadowed clinical research coordinators.

Marcom shared. “I am excited to move forward and use the abundance of knowledge I have gained at Campbell in my career following graduation.” She hopes to work in a patient facing role as a clinical research coordinator and make a meaningful impact in the evolving medical field.


Pharmaceutical Sciences Award for Academic Excellence

Josue Gomez-Ruiz received the Pharmaceutical Sciences Award for Academic Excellence, which is presented annually to graduating students in the Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences programs who achieve the highest overall GPA within their respective programs.

The award recognizes mastery of subject matter across a broad range of academic disciplines and includes an engraved plaque and cash award.

A native of Clayton, North Carolina, Gomez-Ruiz earned his Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Sciences degree while completing an internship at Pfizer in the Cleaning Validation Department.

After graduation, Gomez-Ruiz plans to continue working in the pharmaceutical industry with a particular interest in quality control laboratory work.

The College congratulates both graduates on their accomplishments and looks forward to the impact they will make in their professions and communities.
