Campbell University’s Pharmacy Class of 2030 arrived at Maddox Hall on Thursday, Aug. 6, beginning a four-year journey toward becoming pharmacists.
Held Aug. 6–7, the two-day new student orientation is themed “Navigation from Orientation to Destination: Your GPS for P1 Success.” The program introduces students to Campbell University, the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and the academic and professional expectations of the Doctor of Pharmacy program.
Dr. Mark Moore, associate dean for Student & Professional Affairs, opened the formal program, kicking off a fun and informative two days.
As a special treat, Campbell President Dr. William M. Downs welcomed the students to the University and First Lady Kim Downs, a pharmacist, spoke to the class, sharing helpful advice for students to take to heart throughout their academic and professional careers.
Dr. Jeff Mercer, dean of the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences, welcomed the class to CPHS and the pharmacy program before delivering the invocation. Students, faculty and staff then gathered for a light breakfast and an opportunity to begin building relationships.
Throughout the orientation, students will learn about academic success, professional expectations, wellness, financial aid, student services and campus resources. They will also participate in team-building activities, meet student organizations, connect with faculty and administrators, and hear directly from current Pharmacy Student Ambassadors.
Classes begin Monday with a session led by Campbell alumna Dr. Beth Mills, chair of Pharmacy Practice. As members of the Class of 2030 enter the classroom, they will take the next step toward their destination: becoming compassionate and knowledgeable pharmacists prepared to serve their communities.
