Campbell University’s College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences has named Ashley Nordan, DMSc, MHPE, MSCR, PA-C, program director of its new Doctor of Medical Science program, bringing her Campbell education, diverse clinical experience and commitment to developing future PA leaders full circle.
“As a member of Campbell’s charter PA class, it is especially meaningful to help lead the continued growth of PA education at the University where my journey as a PA began,” said Dr. Nordan. “Our goal with the DMSc program is to provide practicing PAs with a flexible, supportive doctoral experience that builds on their clinical expertise and prepares them to lead, educate, innovate and make an even greater impact in healthcare.”
Dr. Nordan began her journey in healthcare at North Carolina State University, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in biochemistry and biological sciences. She then joined the charter class of Campbell University’s PA program, helping establish the foundation for a program that continues to prepare PAs to serve patients and communities.
Her connection to Campbell continued as she earned a Master of Science in Clinical Research and a Master of Health Professions Education from the University. She also became a PA faculty member in 2019 and then the director of Didactic Education in 2021. She later completed her Doctor of Medical Science degree at Wake Forest University.
Dr. Nordan’s clinical background includes experience in primary care, women’s health and cardiology. These varied areas of practice have given her firsthand insight into the evolving roles of PAs and the opportunities available to PAs who strengthen their leadership, education, research and advocacy skills. As program director, Nordan will lead a doctoral program designed specifically for experienced, practicing PAs who want to expand their impact while continuing to work. Campbell’s 36-credit DMSc program can be completed in four semesters through 100% asynchronous online coursework. Courses are offered in accelerated eight-week formats, providing flexibility for students balancing professional and personal responsibilities.
Students may choose from three specialized tracks based on their interests and professional goals:
- Clinical Leadership
- Health Professions Education
- Clinical Research and Medical Affairs
The curriculum builds upon students’ clinical experience while developing advanced knowledge in leadership, evidence-based practice, policy, advocacy and applied scholarship. Students will also complete a faculty-guided doctoral project focused on addressing a real-world healthcare challenge.
Under Dr. Nordan’s leadership, students will benefit from the supportive culture that has long distinguished Campbell’s health sciences programs. Faculty and staff will help students navigate doctoral-level coursework, connect their learning to their professional goals and develop the skills needed to lead within healthcare organizations, academic institutions, research settings and industry.

Prospective student checklist
Interested PAs can take the following steps to prepare:
- Review the program’s admission requirements and three specialized tracks.
- Confirm degree, professional licensure, certification and graduate GPA eligibility.
- Update your curriculum vitae.
- Request two letters of recommendation.
- Prepare a 500- to 1,000-word personal statement describing your professional goals, reasons for pursuing a DMSc, alignment with Campbell’s mission and fit with your selected track.
- Submit and complete your application by Nov. 20.
Competitive applicants will have at least three years of clinical experience practicing as a PA before entering the program. Applicants must also meet the program’s academic and professional requirements, and an interview may be required. Review the complete admission requirements.
