A group of Campbell University medical school students were recently selected to take part in the 2026-27 Academy for Future Healthcare Leaders Program.
Those selected include fourth-year student Dr. Surabhi Maske, third-year student Drs. Christina Colon-Sanchez and Shannon DeSilva, and second-year student Drs. Alexander Lewis, Caroline Clodfelter and Shaini Lal.
Presented by the N.C. Medical Society Foundation, the academy is a six-month leadership development experience designed for graduate healthcare students preparing to enter a complex, team-based healthcare environment, according to the group.
Through an interactive and participatory learning model, students build foundational leadership skills in communication, collaboration and self-awareness, while also beginning to define their identity as healthcare leaders.
“Participants,” the foundation says, “engage with peers across disciplines and institutions, gaining exposure to diverse perspectives that reflect the realities of modern healthcare. The program emphasizes understanding individual leadership styles, strengthening interpersonal effectiveness and developing the confidence to contribute meaningfully within teams.”
Former Campbell medical students who graduated from the leadership program in 2025 include Drs. Mark Bushhouse, Tamera Hutchinson, Nesreen Abu Khalaf and Shiela Marie Romanick.
