RALEIGH, N.C. – The Campbell Law School Black Law Student Association (BLSA) will host a forum on juvenile justice for interested students on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. An expert panel will discuss and field questions from students with regard to education and support services for at-risk and court-involved youth, including proposed “raise the age” legislation.
The panel will include former North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Robert Orr, Judge Marcia Morey from the 14thJudicial District of North Carolina, Georgetown University Center for Juvenile Justice Reform Director Shay Bilchik, and Action for Children North Carolina Director of Policy & Outreach Brandy Bynum.
North Carolina is one of two states that prosecute all 16 and 17-year olds through the adult criminal system. Panelists will discuss the pros and cons of proposed legislation to raise the age of the state’s legal definition of juveniles to include 16 and 17-year old youth.
