RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law Assistant Professor Lisa Lukasik and Director of Student Life & Pro Bono Opportunities Beth Froehling will each present at the 2015 Festival of Legal Learning on Friday, Feb. 13. The event is hosted by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.
Froehling will co-present alongside Sherry Honeycutt Everett on domestic violence during two sessions. The first session will include an overview of the dynamics and prevalence of domestic violence in North Carolina, as well as civil and criminal legal remedies. The second session will include a summary of legislative changes to laws related to domestic violence in North Carolina during the last two legislative sessions, as well as a summary of recent appellate decisions impacting domestic violence laws.
Lukasik’s presentation, “An Empirical Look at Special Education Litigation in North Carolina,” will examine data drawn from a study of 12 years of administrative law decisions in special education due process disputes under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. It explores the legal questions most frequently litigated in this context, the effects of significant changes in the law on administrative outcomes, and the factors most highly correlated with success in resolving due process complaints.
The Festival of Legal Learning is a diverse program allowing participants to earn 12 hours of CLE credit. The program is designed to build basics, sharpen skills, provide prospective and highlight new developments in the field of law. Click here for more information.
