RALEIGH, North Carolina – Experienced trial attorney Ashley Campbell has been tapped to lead the Community Law Clinic of Campbell Law School. Campbell will guide law school students as they assist area organizations in providing legal services to members of the community in need. The clinic, Campbell Law’s fourth, will open with the upcoming fall 2016 semester and will serve the community from the historic Horton-Beckham-Bretsch House in downtown Raleigh.
Campbell is a partner at Ragsdale Liggett PLLC in Raleigh, where she will continue to practice law in addition to leading the clinic. She is also the current president-elect of the Wake County Bar Association and Tenth Judicial District Bar.
“I am thrilled to be chosen to lead this new initiative, which will allow students to obtain hands on legal experience while also providing access to justice for the neediest in our community,” said Campbell. “I am blessed to be supported in this effort by my partners at Ragsdale Liggett.”
The Community Law Clinic of Campbell Law will provide backup legal services free of charge to area non-profit agencies and their clients when legal issues complicate such important steps as acquiring housing or employment. The clinic will support organizations like StepUp Ministry, Urban Ministries of Wake County and the Raleigh Rescue Mission among others. A grant of $150,000 from the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation that has been matched by other donors is making this effort possible.
“Ashley is the absolute perfect person to lead our students in this new community venture,” said Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard. “Her reputation among her peers and colleagues within the bar is unmatched, and her passion for helping those in need is unquestioned. Her willingness to serve in this role will have an immense impact on our students as well as members of the community who find themselves in dire straits.”
At Ragsdale Liggett, Campbell handles professional malpractice, real estate, bad faith, directors and officers, general liability and transportation claims. She has litigated accounting malpractice cases involving the Big Eight accounting firms and is panel counsel for one of the largest title insurance companies in the country. She has also successfully handled appeals in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Court of Appeals and the North Carolina Supreme Court.
Campbell has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America, the North Carolina Bar Association, North Carolina Super Lawyers, North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, and the Triangle Business Journal for her success in the courtroom and her community involvement and leadership. She is also a member of the Federation of Defense & Corporate Counsel and is AV-Rated by Martindale-Hubbell.
In the community, Campbell serves as board chair for StepUp Ministries. She has also been extremely active with Junior League of Raleigh and Women’s Center of Wake County. She volunteers with Legal Aid of North Carolina and is a Sunday school teacher at White Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Campbell earned both her undergraduate and law degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
