BUIES CREEK, North Carolina – The Campbell University Advancement office has announced two staff changes that will take effect Jan. 1: Doug Jones, the current assistant vice president for alumni relations, will be the associate vice president for advancement services, while Sarah Swain, the current director of annual giving, will become assistant vice president for alumni relations.
“I could not be more pleased for the opportunity for Doug Jones and Sarah Swain to take on more responsibilities for Campbell University and for our alumni and students,” said Britt Davis, vice president for advancement and assistant to the president. “Both of these individuals have distinguished themselves as outstanding development and alumni relations professionals. I am excited about the contributions they will make for years to come at Campbell.”
As the associate vice president for advancement, Jones will lead all of Advancement data management and serve as a key liaison on special project management.
Jones received a bachelor’s from Campbell in 1983 and a Master of Divinity from the Southeastern Theological Seminary in 1987. He served churches in Virginia, Arkansas and North Carolina before becoming, in 1997, Campbell’s director and later assistant vice president for alumni relations.
Over 17 years in the position, he developed the Campbell University National Alumni Association Board of Director’s into a dynamic, task-oriented group; started an alumni benefits program; and launched eight local alumni chapters across North Carolina and in Virginia and Washington, D.C.
As the new assistant vice president for alumni relations, Swain will build on Jones’ work and lead Advancement’s efforts to engage alumni, as well as oversee the annual fund program.
Swain joined the Advancement team in 2013 as director of annual giving. In that position, she oversaw record giving to the annual fund program and spearheaded efforts to introduce two new Campbell traditions: Founders Week and #CampbellTAGDay.
This past year, she won two national CASE Circle of Excellence bronze awards for #CampbellTAGDay and a CASE District III platinum award in the “Best Practices in Fundraising Campaigns” category for the Employee Giving Campaign “My Gift. My Impact.”
Swain received a bachelor’s in communication studies from Campbell in 2005. She is a candidate for a master’s in philanthropy and development at LaGrange College, with expected completion date in July 2016.
