Campbell ranks 18th in the nation in pharmacy residency match rate

With an exceptional residency match rate of 92% as ranked by the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), the Campbell University pharmacy program ranks 18th in the nation.

This achievement is well above the national average of 82% and highlights the outstanding caliber of students coming from the program.

“This year we have a total of 53 alumni and students who received a residency or fellowship,” said Beth Mills (’98 PharmD), chair of Pharmacy Practice. “That is an increase of 32.5 percent since last year, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our faculty, staff and students. We are extremely happy and proud of these outstanding pharmacists and future pharmacists and look forward to hearing of their continued success in years to come.”

Abby Cowen (’23 PharmD/MSPH Candidate) received a PGY1 residency with the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee. She commented, “Match day was one of the highlights of my professional education! It was so rewarding to receive positive news. I cannot thank Campbell University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences enough for giving me the opportunity to grow and immerse myself in experiences.”

Post-graduate training for this group will continue in 15 states including Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Washington. More than half of these PharmDs will continue their training in North Carolina with 32 graduates matching in the Tar Heel State.

“Campbell University has played a vital role in shaping me into a versatile and competent professional,” expressed Kafi Friday (’23 PharmD Candidate). Kafi received a fellowship with GSK and the FDA. “The didactic courses, clinical training, research experiences, and professional development opportunities I received from this institution have provided me with the necessary skills and expertise to excel in this fellowship.”

Matthew Gentry (’23 PharmD Candidate) matched with Virginia Mason Franciscan Health-St. Joseph Medical Center, in Tacoma, Washington. He said, “I am so grateful to my friends, family and the amazing faculty and staff at Campbell University for helping me achieve my goals and dreams – ‘Even the smallest person can change the course of the future.’”
