Advocacy program selected for National Civil Trial Competition

RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law School’s advocacy program is one of just 16 selected to participate in this year’s 15th-annual National Civil Trial Competition (NCTC) in Los Angeles. Nearly 50 law school advocacy programs from across the country applied for a spot in the prestigious competition.

Scheduled for November 18-20, the competition is sponsored by Loyola Law School, Los Angeles and the Santa Monica law firm Greene Broillet & Wheeler, LLP.

“Campbell Law School’s advocacy program is deeply honored to have been selected to compete at the National Civil Trial Competition,” said advocacy program director and assistant professor Dan Tilly. “NCTC sets the standard for competitiveness and collegiality. It is a remarkable training ground for future lawyers.”

In addition to Campbell Law, selected schools include: Akron, American University, Baylor, Cal-Berkeley, Drexel, Duquesne, Georgetown, Harvard, Loyola University of Chicago, Samford, Stetson, Syracuse, Temple, University of the Pacific and Washington University.

The competition involves 64 law student litigants representing their respective schools on teams of four. The students will act as advocates/witnesses to perform opening statements, conduct direct-and-cross examination of expert and lay witnesses, make closing arguments, and argue objections based on the Federal Rules of Evidence. Each team will argue their case in front of a panel of judges consisting of prestigious members of the Southern California Bar.
