Alston & Bird to sponsor trial advocacy team

RALEIGH, N.C. – Campbell Law Dean J. Rich Leonard announced today that Alston & Bird LLP have provided a financial gift to the law school to financially support a trial advocacy team. The firm’s support will provide assistance for the team’s travel and lodging for the 2016 Estrella Trial Advocacy Competition (ETAC) in San Juan, Puerto Rico, April 9-10.

“We are appreciative for Alston & Bird’s tremendous gift,” said Leonard. “This gift will not only allow our student advocates to compete against other respected programs, but in an international setting as well.“

ETAC is the only federal civil mock trial competition in Puerto Rico. The competition is an invaluable learning experience in which law students can practice advocacy skills through participation in a mock trial. Students are afforded the opportunity to put into practice the rules of evidence, trial strategy, and oral advocacy skills including preparation of lines of questioning, statements, and arguments.

A leading national and international law firm, Alston & Bird is experienced in corporate and finance law, environment, land use, and natural resources, intellectual property, legislative and public policy, litigation, white collar criminal defense and internal investigations. Campbell Law alums Mark Calloway (L ’83) and Thomas Walker (L ’90), both former United States Attorneys, are partners at the firm.
