Thanks to a challenge from Campbell alumnus Fred Whitfield, the Campbell community unlocked $25,000 for student scholarships on #CampbellDay, Feb. 8, 2017.
The Whitfield challenge included four tasks that promoted engagement on social media and engagement with the Office of Annual Giving.
Here’s how we answered the challenge:
- Facebook Challenge: 300 shares of the official #CampbellDay post on Feb. 8
- Results: 418 total shares, 11,399 views of video
- Wear Orange Challenge: 100 Instagram/Twitter posts of #CampbellDay selfies wearing orange
- Results: 464 posts using #CampbellDay
- Sweethearts Challenge: 20 gifts from alumni couples
- Results: 25 gifts
- I Love Campbell Challenge: 200 gifts investing in the educational experience of today’s students
- Results: 230+ gifts
Fred Whitfield, president and chief operating officer of the Charlotte Hornets, has challenged the Campbell University community to participate in #CampbellDay and share their love for Campbell on Wednesday, Feb. 8.
If the challenge below is completed, Whitfield will give $10,000 toward student scholarships:

Additionally, for each of the three challenges below that is completed, Whitfield will give $5,000 toward student scholarships up to $15,000:

If all four challenges are completed, the university will receive a total of $25,000 for student scholarships.
Whitfield is a two-time graduate of Campbell University Lundy-Fetterman School of Business and a member of the Fighting Camels Hall of Fame. He is a member of Campbell’s first NCAA Division I men’s basketball team and served as assistant basketball coach for two seasons post-graduation.
