Andrew Zohn, a well-known classical guitarist and composer, will perform a guitar concert at Campbell University’s Artists Performance and Guitar Concert Series. Free and open to the public, the concert will be held Thursday, April 6, at 8 p.m. in Scott Concert Hall in the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. Zohn will feature arrangements from a wide variety of composers and a couple of his own works. Everything from classical pieces by Bach to variations on folk style, “Mit Humor, Langsam, and Nitcht Zu Rasch,” by Robert Schumann, will be presented. Andrew Zohn has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral soloist and as part of Duo Spiritoso with acclaimed Canadian guitarist and Naxos recording artist Jeffrey MdFadden. He is a prize winner in five international competitions including the Guitar Foundation of America and the Stotsenberg International. Zohn has received his Doctor of Music degree from Florida State University, a Master of Music from the University of Texas and a bachelor’s degree from the North Carolina School of the Arts. He has joined the faculty of Columbus State University in 1999 and currently serves on the faculty of the Guitar on the Mediterranean Festival in Cervo, Italy, and the Guitar Lachine festival in Canada, each summer. Beginning a career in composing in 1998, Zohn has already received commissions for new works from La Flame Records, Canada, the Campbell University Foundation for the Arts, and the East Carolina New Music Festival. Zohn was also selected as a recipient of a Plus Award from the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) in recognition of his compositions in 2004 and 2005. His latest recording, Music of Piazzolla, Debussy, Gershwin and Zohn is now available through Centaur Records.
