Art exhibit showcases Fields and McCulloh

Buies Creek, N.C.-Works by Campbell University Graphic Design/Studio Art majors Nikki Fields and Darrena McCulloh are currently being exhibited in the E.P. Sauls Gallery of the Taylor Bott Rogers Fine Arts Center. The exhibit, which runs through Dec. 15, is free and open to the public.

Although McCulloh always dreamed of a career in art, Fields said she had no clue about what she wanted to do with her life when she first came to Campbell.

“I felt that Campbell was the right choice for me since there were so many options I could choose from,” she said. “I always enjoyed art growing up, and I’ve always been fairly good at it. I never really thought I could make a career out of it until I heard about Campbell’s Graphic Design program.”

A senior from Tar Heel, N.C., Fields started taking art classes during her second semester at Campbell and conducting research on the types of jobs available to her in graphic design and studio art. Upon graduation in December, Fields is hoping to find a job with a design company that deals with identity and branding or possibly work for a magazine designing layouts.

McCulloh, who is also the design editor for the Pine Burr yearbook and works with athletics and marketing at Campbell, will earn a degree in Graphic Design and Studio Art while holding down a full time job as the marketing director of the Chick-fil-A restaurant in Smithfield.

“Juggling a full time job and being a full time student was a challenge, but well worth it,” McCulloh said. “I hope that my work experience and art portfolio will give me a head start in my career as a graphic designer.”

McCulloh chose Campbell because she wanted to attend a school with the same Christian principals and moral values with which she was raised, she said. “I’m continually praying for God to open up doors and lead me where He would like me to use my knowledge and talents to serve Him,” she said.

McCulloh is set to graduate in December 2009.

The Campbell program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with Graphic Design and Studio Art concentrations. Students who successfully complete the degree program have a variety of jobs available to them, including web designer, advertising art director, publications director, artist, museum work and graduate work in any of the fine arts or design professions, including art history, studio art or art education.
