RALEIGH — Professor Ashley Campbell, director of Campbell Law’s Blanchard Community Law Clinic, is one of two recipients of the 2019 Gwyneth B. Davis Public Service Award from the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys (NCAWA).
The public service award is given annually for the promotion of women attorneys in the legal profession and women’s rights under the law. Awards will be presented at the NCAWA’s Annual Conference Dinner on Friday, Oct. 11, in Greensboro. The other recipient this year is Yolanda L. Taylor.
Professor Campbell has been supervising clinic students who provide legal services to clients being served by non-profit agencies including the Raleigh Rescue Mission, Urban Ministries, Alliance Ministry and StepUp Ministry since the clinic’s opening in 2016.
Repeatedly named one of the Best Lawyers in America in Commercial Litigation, Professor Campbell is active in the North Carolina Bar Association and North Carolina State Bar and is past president of the Wake County Bar Association and Tenth Judicial District Bar. An experience trial attorney, she is a juried member of the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel and is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell. And like Davis, Professor Campbell was previously a legal services attorney with Legal Aid North Carolina.
Davis was a past president and board member of NCAWA. She died in 1988, following a three-year fight with cancer. In the time that she lived and worked in North Carolina, she served as a staff attorney with Legal Services of Northwest North Carolina in Winston-Salem, and devoted her considerable energies and talents to founding the Forsyth County Women Attorneys Association and working toward the objectives of NCAWA at both the state and local levels.
