Buies Creek, N.C.—On Tues., Mar. 8, Campbell University announced the receipt of a gift in the amount of $250,000 towards the expansion of historic Taylor Baseball Field from leading North Carolina banking corporation BB&T. The announcement was made during a pre-game ceremony at Taylor as the Fighting Camels prepared to face off against East Carolina University.
Known for its outstanding playing surface, Taylor Field has been home to the Fighting Camels for more than six decades. In the spring of 2010, Campbell announced plans to renovate and expand the facility in a two-phase financial campaign titled “Step Up to the Plate.” Phase I of the campaign includes the construction of a new entrance with ticket booth, restrooms and wrought iron fencing enclosing the entire facility. Phase II will include a new grandstand seating , including 515 premium chair back seats for a total seating capacity of 1,985. Also included in Phase II are a state-of-the art press box, new concession areas and a classic brick facade surrounding the stadium.
“We are grateful for the support and commitment of BB&T to Campbell University and specifically to the baseball stadium campaign,” said Dr. Dennis Bazemore, Vice President for Student Life. “This gift is very much appreciated in providing funds for the expansion and renovation of our baseball facility.”
BB&T Regional President Scott Evans, Regional Corporate Banker Mike Parham, City/Area Executive Larry Byrd, Senior Trust Manager Kevin Ward and the Executive Vice President of BB&T’s Wealth Division, Kim Johnson, were on hand for the ceremony. Johnson and Ward are both Campbell graduates. All five participated in the first pitch of the game. Campbell will name the Stadium entrance building and the practice field in honor of BB&T.
