Beam appointed as Campbell’s Campus Minister

Campbell University has announced the appointment of Faithe Cooper Beam to the position of Campus Minister. Beam is the first woman to serve in that capacity in the University’s 120 year history. Beam received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from Appalachian State University before serving as Minister of Music and Education at Zion Baptist Church in Shelby, N.C. for nine years. Beam went on to receive her Master of Divinity from Campbell Divinity School in 2003. Since 2002, she has served as the Director of Student Services for the Divinity School, coordinating worship and fellowship activities for students. As Campus Minister, Beam will be responsible for the planning and implementation of undergraduate worship services (CUW) twice a week during the academic year. Dr. Dennis Bazemore, Vice President for Student Life, said CUW offers the Campus Minister a unique opportunity to reach out to the Campbell student body. “There’s no one else on this campus that stands before 900 students twice a week. Think about that person having an impact and an influence over that large population of students,” he said. “The quality of that program is vital.” In addition to her CUW responsibilities, Beam will also offer pastoral counseling to students, provide leadership to various ministries on campus, and help facilitate missions and outreach opportunities for Campbell students. Dr. Bazemore said he’s convinced the Campbell community will embrace Beam as its new Campus Minister. “Her spirit, her compassion, her love for ministry and the evidence of her love for students — I believe will speak volumes in her work as Campus Minister,” he said. “It is a new day for us, and I think our student body is going to welcome her.” Beam is married to Tom Beam, a Consultant for Youth and Children’s Missions for Baptist Men at the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. They have a son, Patrick. Beam replaces Terry-Michael Newell, who left the Campus Minister’s office in December after ten years of service to pursue further training in pastoral counseling. He will be teaching an adjunct course in the Divinity School. She will begin her new position on February 15, 2007.Photo: Faithe Cooper Beam is appointed as Campus Minister at Campbell University.
