BUIES CREEK — During its spring meeting April 22, the Campbell University Board of Trustees officially welcomed seven new trustees to the board. They will each serve at least one four-year term.
They are Joann Anderson, president and CEO of Southeastern Regional Medical Center; Don Evans, vice president of Coastal Insurance; Greg Gore, president of Century 21 Sunset Realty/Sunset Vacations; Karen McNeil-Miller, president of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust; Frederick L. Taylor II, president of Troy Lumber Company; Irvin Warren, president of Warren Oil Company; and Fred Whitfield, president and chief operating officer of Hornets Sports & Entertainment.
“The incoming class of trustees are among the finest we have ever brought to Campbell University,” said Benjamin Thompson, chair of the Board of Trustees. “They continue our legacy of excellence in community leadership from among our alumni and friends across North Carolina and beyond. We could not be more proud of this new group and those who continue to serve Campbell over multiple terms and years.”
In addition, six former trustees returned to the board this spring and will serve a four-year term that ends Dec. 31, 2018. Trustees are eligible to return to the board after at least a one-year leave.
The returning trustees are Suzanne B. Cook, president of the Benton Card Company; Glenn T. Infinger, a partner at the law firm Mazursky Constantine; Jimmy Jackson, a pharmacist who owns Spoke Consulting; John “Sandy” McNeill Jr., CEO of Liberty Healthcare Services; Sandy Greene Patterson, an attorney; and L. Stuart Surles, president of Surles Insurance, Inc.

New trustees
Joann Anderson (of Lumberton, North Carolina)
Joann Anderson joined Southeastern Health Medical Center as president and CEO in May 2007. She also serves as a regent with the American College of Healthcare Executives, chair-elect for the American Hospital Association’s Section for Small or Rural Hospitals Governing Council, treasurer for the N.C. Hospital Association Board of Directors, and chair of the Coast Carolinas Health Alliance Board of Directors. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Eastern Kentucky University and her Master of Science in Nursing from Bellarmine College. She and her husband, Terry, have two sons and two granddaughters.
Don Evans (of Ash, North Carolina)
A 1971 graduate of Campbell, Don Evans is vice president of Coastal Insurance in Shallotte, North Carolina. He also has served on the boards of the Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina (IIANC) for 17 years, including serving as president in 2004, as its national director to the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers for six years, and as chair of its finance committee for three years. He was named IIANC’s Agent of the Year in 2007. He and his wife, Judy, have one son, Scott, who graduated from Campbell in 1988 and who works with Don at Coastal Insurance.
Gregory S. Gore (of Calabash, North Carolina)
Greg Gore is president of Century 21 Sunset Realty/Sunset Vacations in Sunset Beach, North Carolina. Gore co-owned Ocean Ridge Farms, Inc. and Ocean Ridge Golf, Inc. and has served as a director of the company since 1991. He has been president of Century 21 Sunset Realty/Sunset Vacations since 1988. He and his wife, Emily, and stepdaughter, Melissa, reside in Calabash, North Carolina.
Karen McNeil-Miller (of Winston-Salem, North Carolina)
Dr. Karen McNeil-Miller is the president of the Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Prior to joining the organization, she spent 16 years with the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she trained executives from major companies. A former special education teacher and head of the Piedmont School, she received her undergraduate and master’s degrees from UNC-Greensboro and her doctorate from Vanderbilt University. Campbell awarded her an honorary doctorate in May 2014. She and her husband, Steve, have two children: Lindsey and William.
Frederick Leslie Taylor II (of Troy, North Carolina)
Frederick L. Taylor II is the president of Troy Lumber Company, located in Troy, North Carolina, where he has been employed since 1992. In 2005, he was elected to the First Bancorp Board of Directors. He also is part owner and vice president of Longleaf Truss, a company in West End that builds roofs and floor trusses. He earned his bachelor’s in business administration from Campbell University in 1992. He and his wife, Melissa, have one daughter: Emma.
Irvin Warren (of Dunn, North Carolina)
Irvin Warren is founder and president of Warren Oil Company, Inc., which has locations in six states. He has taken his company from being a small local business to the largest independent oil company in North America. He received his Bachelor of Science in Education from East Carolina University and a master’s degree from North Carolina State University, where he also taught for six years. He and his wife, Michelle, reside in Dunn, North Carolina.
Fred Whitfield (of Charlotte, North Carolina)
Fred Whitfield has been president and chief operating officer of Hornets Sports & Entertainment since 2006. In this role, he oversees all business operations of the Time Warner Cable Arena and the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets. He earned his Bachelor of Business Administration and MBA degrees from Campbell University, where he starred on the men’s basketball team. Campbell inducted him into its Sports Hall of Fame in 1995. He also earned a law degree from North Carolina Central University. He and his wife, Mary, reside in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Returning trustees
Suzanne B. Cook (of Benson, North Carolina)
Suzanne Cook is president of the Benton Card Company and a member of the Benson Area Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Committee. Her community activities have included serving as a board member of the Johnston County Community Foundation, Benson Rescue Squad, Benson Area Medical Center, Johnston County Habitat for Humanity, and Johnston County Visitors Bureau. She’s also a past president of the Benson Area Chamber of Commerce, which named her the Benson Citizen of the Year in 2001. A graduate of Brenau University, she and husband, Steve, reside in Benson.
Glenn T. Infinger (of Atlanta, Georgia)
Glenn T. Infinger, of Atlanta, Georgia, is a partner at the Atlanta-based law firm Mazursky Constantine, which specializes in various human resource matters. Previously, he had worked in private practice with other law firms located in Dallas, Texas, and Atlanta, and served as chief counsel of benefits and executive compensation at BellSouth Corp. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Campbell University and his law degree from the University of South Carolina. Campbell named him a Distinguished Alumnus in 2009. He and his wife, Anne, have two adult children.
Jimmy Jackson (of Garner, North Carolina)
Jimmy Jackson owns Spoke Consulting, Inc., and is president of the North Carolina Retail Merchants Association Service Corporation. He also has been the secretary of the Pharmacy Network Foundation since its inception and has served on the advisory boards of the pharmacy schools at the Medical University of South Carolina, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Campbell University, which awarded him an honorary Ph.D. in science. He received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from the University of Mississippi. He and his wife reside in Garner.
John A. (Sandy) McNeill Jr. (of Whiteville, North Carolina)
Sandy McNeill is CEO of Liberty Healthcare Services. He is also a board member for Pharmaceutical Product Development (PPD) and served as the company’s president until 1990 and as its chair of the board until July 1993. In addition, he is a member of the Pharmacy Foundation of North Carolina Board, UNC-Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy Board of Visitors, and UNC-Wilmington Board of Trustees. He received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from UNC- Chapel Hill. He and his wife, Deborah, reside in Whiteville, North Carolina.
Sandy Greene Patterson (of Southern Pines, North Carolina)
Sandy Greene Patterson is an attorney in private practice who lives in Southern Pines, North Carolina. A graduate of Wingate College and the Wake Forest University School of Law, she’s a member of the North Carolina Bar Association. She and her husband, Linwood “Buster,” have two daughters: Nicole and Stacy.
L. Stuart Surles (of Angier, North Carolina)
A 1977 graduate of Campbell University, L. Stuart Surles, of Angier, North Carolina, is president of Surles Insurance, Inc. Known for his outreach to small farmers, he’s the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award from National Crop Insurance Service and the Platinum Sales Award from Rural Community Insurance Services. He also has been a member of the Harnett County Department of Social Services’ Board of Directors and was charter president of the Angier Rotary Club. He has two daughters: Brooke and Morgan, a 2009 Campbell graduate.
