Bobby Murray Jr. honored by Campbell’s Adam Smith Club

Raleigh—Local entrepreneur Bobby Louis Murray, Jr. was awarded the Free Enterprise Award from Campbell University’s Lundy-Fetterman School of Business Monday, March 26, at the North Raleigh Hilton Hotel. The Free Enterprise Award is given annually by members of the Adam Smith Club to an individual who best exemplifies the qualities of one of history’s most influential moral and political thinkers.”In his famous work, ‘The Wealth of Nations,’18th century political economist, Adam Smith, set out the principles with which most economists agree—that self-interest is the engine of the economy and competition its governor,” said Dr. Derek Yonai, professor of business and advisor to the Adam Smith Club. “The recipient of the Free Enterprise Award is someone who has earned his or her success through diligence and hard work and embodies the qualities indicative of true entrepreneurship.”According to Yonai, Bobby Murray, Jr., demonstrates Smith’s principles on a daily basis. He owns and operates the third largest-selling Chevrolet dealership in the nation while competing with other dealerships in a free market economy to maintain the coveted ranking.”We sell 3,000 Chevrolet cars and trucks a year from a single dealership,” said Murray, a 1993 Campbell graduate. “I’m really proud of our sales record and our standards of customer service.”Murray, who received a bachelor’s degree in business from Campbell, was a member of the Fighting Camels Basketball team and the Adam Smith Club while on campus.”I’m really honored to receive the Free Enterprise Award from the same club in which I was a member during my days at Campbell,” Murray said. “This is really a proud moment for me and my family.”An active community leader, Murray was named 1998 Optimist of the Year by the Raleigh Optimist Club and served as president of the club in 2003.
