Bonnie Johnson Wiggs, of Raleigh, N.C., was named a Distinguished Alumna of Campbell University during the university’s Homecoming events Saturday, Oct. 21. Wiggs graduated from Campbell in 1980. A missionary to South Korea and Albania, Wiggs and her husband the Rev. Charles W. Wiggs, worked at the Wallace Memorial Hospital in Pusan, where Charles was administrator. During Wiggs’ tenure in Korea, she worked wherever her services were needed, including the hospital business office, as a volunteer, as treasurer of the Korean Baptist Mission and as director of the Christian Home Ministries of the Korean Baptist Missions for 10 years. Following their service in Korea, the Wiggs were assigned to Tirana, Albania, where they served two years. In the former communist country, the coupled helped establish churches and provide spiritual leadership to Christian congregations. Wiggs continues to be actively involved in ministries through her local church, Raleigh’s Temple Baptist Church, and serves as a Sunday school teacher, choir member and director of the Woman’s Missionary Union. Additionally, she has served on several committees of the Raleigh Baptist Association. Her denominational service includes president of the North Carolina Christian Women’s Job Corps Board of Directors and member of the Executive Board of Directors of the Woman’s Missionary Union of North Carolina. In addition, she serves Christian higher education as a Campbell trustee. The Wiggs are the parents of three children, Debbie Simmons, Toni Sidler and Lisa Odell. They have eight grandchildren. Founded in 1887, Campbell University is a private, coeducational institution of the liberal arts, sciences and professions offering undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees. The university is comprised of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law, the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business, the School of Education, The School of Pharmacy and the Divinity School.
