RALEIGH, N.C. –Campbell Law School Interim Dean Keith Faulkner announced today that Christopher G. Browning, Jr., William A. Pully, Robert A. Sar, and Ashley H. Story have joined the Campbell Law School Board of Visitors.
Browning is a highly experienced litigator with a strong background in appellate practice, complex commercial litigation, business torts and governmental relations, and leads Williams Mullen’s Appellate team. He joined Williams Mullen after serving seven years as the first Solicitor General for the State of North Carolina. In this capacity, he argued four times before the United States Supreme Court and has multiple arguments before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, the North Carolina Supreme Court and the North Carolina Court of Appeals. Browning established the policies and procedures for the Office of Solicitor General and the process for that office’s review and management of all civil appeals involving the State of North Carolina. Additionally, he served as an adviser to the North Carolina Attorney General with respect to appellate issues and other policy matters. Browning is a past chair of the Appellate Rules Committee of the North Carolina Bar Association. He currently serves as the North Carolina representative to the Fourth Circuit’s Advisory Committee on Rules and Procedures. He is certified by the North Carolina State Bar as a specialist in appellate practice.
Pully, a 1979 Campbell Law graduate, began serving as president of the North Carolina Hospital Association (NCHA) in September 1999. During his tenure as president, Pully has led the association in a number of initiatives including the creation of the North Carolina Center for Hospital Quality and Patient Safety. The Center has enhanced hospital quality through the development of educational collaboratives and public reporting of quality indicators. As the NCHA’s chief lobbyist for more than 15 years and president for the past 13, Pully has been involved in almost every major healthcare initiative in North Carolina during his tenure. Prior to becoming president, Pully was NCHA’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel. During that time, he was responsible for advocacy and representation for all hospital and healthcare-related issues before the North Carolina General Assembly and state agencies. He also managed all of NCHA’s legal actions and policy development.
A 1995 Campbell Law graduate, Saris a shareholder and trial lawyer with the national labor law firm Ogletree Deakins, advising employers on employment practices and defending their interests throughout the country. He has litigated hundreds of lawsuits and successfully obtained many jury verdicts and arbitration awards. He co-leads the firm’s Ethics Compliance, Investigations and Whistleblower Response practice group, and leads internal investigations on behalf of management and corporate boards to respond to whistleblowers and government inquiries. Early in his career, Sar worked in the White House West Wing as an assistant to the Chief of Staff. He is actively involved with several public and private boards, including current service on the Board of the Food Bank for Central and Eastern North Carolina, the North Carolina Bar Association Administration of Justice Committee, and as Chairman of The Conference Table.
Story, a 1982 Campbell Law graduate, is the Managing Partner of the Raleigh office of Troutman Sanders. His practice focuses on the development, construction, permitting, acquisition and sale of retail, industrial and office property. Story also serves as the Real Estate Section Chief for the firm, as well as a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. He is admitted to practice in North Carolina and New York. Story’s public service projects include involvement with and membership in the Conservation Trust for North Carolina, the North Carolina Museum of History Associates, and the American Friends of the London School of Economics. Story has remained extremely close to Campbell Law School, working with the “Campaign for Raleigh” board during the campus transition from Buies Creek to Raleigh. He was also instrumental in coordinating a major contribution from Troutman Sanders to the law school, and was one of four Campbell alums to receive the Campbell University Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011.
A dynamic group of legal and industry leaders, the Campbell Law Board of Visitors includes the Clerk of United States Supreme Court, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of North Carolina, the Vice President and Chief Counsel of Kellogg’s Employment, Labor and Intellectual Property, managing partners of national and regional law firms, and business leaders.
The board assists the dean, faculty, and leadership in developing and evaluating strategic planning efforts and launching new initiatives. The group also serves as a sounding board to review ideas, while helping to develop and foster important relationships throughout the legal and business community, nonprofit organizations, higher education, and government agencies in an effort to enhance all aspects of the law school.
