Throughout its 120-year history, people have dedicated their time and talent to Campbell University, but few can look back on a legacy like that of Goldsboro native Raymond Bryan Jr. The chairman of the board and CEO of the T.A. Loving Construction Company and president of Aviation Fuel Terminals, Inc., Bryan begins a second term as vice chairman of Campbell’s Board of Trustees 41 years after being elected to the Campbell board for the first time. Elected to Campbell’s Board of Trustees in 1966, Bryan served as either an advisor or a trustee for over two decades. He was elected vice chairman of the Board of Trustees in 1998, becoming chairman that same year in order to fill the unexpired term of William M. Womble, Sr. Over the past 41 years, Bryan has shouldered countless responsibilities at Campbell, serving as chairman of the Executive Committee and member of the Business Affairs and Advancement committees and lending his support to numerous capital campaigns. Bryan holds a Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University and has been active in various civic and professional organizations, including serving as a director of First Union National Bank of North Carolina, Charlotte and Goldsboro, and as a member of the advisory board of Goldsboro and Norfolk-Southern Corporation. He is a past president of the Wayne County Boys Club, who honored him with the Boy Scout medallion for outstanding service, and a past president of the N.C. State University Student Aid Association. Bryan also served on the Dean’s Cabinet of N.C. State University’s Engineering School and as a member of the board of directors of the Independent College Fund of North Carolina. He is the recipient of Campbell’s prestigious Algernon Sydney Sullivan award and was named an Honorary Doctor of Laws by the university in 1979. Active in the First Baptist Church of Goldsboro, Bryan is married to the former Jo Ann Collier of Pikeville, N.C. They are the parents of three children.Photo Copy: Ray Bryan, Jr.
