In efforts to limit the spread of the COVID-19, many companies have adapted to remote work by leveraging video systems like Zoom, WebEx and GoToMeeting to connect virtually with their employees and potential new hires. In these unprecedented times, Campbell University School of Business saw the need to prepare students to handle a world of virtual interviews and working remotely.
The first of the two workshops, Working from Home – The New Normal, focused on the benefits as well as the challenges of working from home during the current pandemic. Students were able to hear from the CEO and a few of the staff members of Finwell Benefits, including one of our Alumni, Will Ashburn (‘18). Will was joined by his colleagues, Dominique McQueen, Breanna Stott and Yvette Stott. Each of the speakers shared their experiences working from their homes in North Carolina, Tennessee and California. The guest speakers discussed how they not only effectively work from home, but also how they function as a team while living in various parts of the country. CEO and Founder of Finwell Benefits, Breanna Stott, kicked off the workshop by sharing the background of Finwell and why she created a company that is a tech-enabled financial wellness planning and wealth management firm. After introductions, they then fielded questions regarding what working from home looks like for each of them.
In the second workshop, Virtual Internships – How to Make Your Remote Internship Successful, students heard from current business students, Blake Phillips, Brady Frampton and Aaron Schnoor. Each student discussed their summer internships and how they had to navigate working remotely.
Junior Trust and Wealth Management major Blake Phillips said, “My virtual internship with Wells Fargo was initially welcomed by feelings of worry; however, I adjusted rather smoothly. Every student should consider watching the virtual internship workshop to gain practical, experience-based knowledge to prepare you for your internship.”
The office of Career Services in the Business School is seeking to give its students the most up to date information that will help set them apart in work force.
“We are trying to help prepare our students for whatever their future career may look like, said Director of Career Services Jill Williamson. “We want our students to be able to get a sense of what it’s like working remotely and how to be successful in their new job or internship, whatever that may look like.”
Campbell Business has provided recordings of each of these workshops that can be found on our website under Career Services student resources.
