Campbell advertising students take national honors for Public Service campaign

           Last fall Campbell University Mass Communication students helped work on the Raleigh Ad Club’s public service announcement for Me Fine, a nonprofit organization which helps families of children with serious or terminal illnesses. The announcement recently took second place in a national advertising awards competition for advertising clubs sponsored by the American Advertising Federation (AAF).The students who helped work on the announcement were members of Dr. Ed Johnson’s Mass Communication Capstone course, a service learning course designed to teach advertising concepts for application in public service projects. Working in association with the Raleigh Ad Club, the students came up with promotional ideas, press releases and participated in all facets of the comprehensive advertising campaign for Me Fine.“Students working with professionals is what makes Campbell unique,” said Johnson, who was named 2005 “Educator of the Year” by the Ad Club of the Triangle.Students in Johnson’s 2007 Capstone course who worked on the award-winning campaign are Bryan Ames, Jessica Beall, Samantha Byrd, Chris Cadwallader, James Capps, Nicole Camemolla, Benjamin Hilker, Raelyn Johnson-Miller, Riley Koppa, Marsha McCoy, Krystal Moody, Christine Mozur, Jeffrey Rhodes, Raymond Rivera, Melissa Sheldon, Erik Smith, Erica Strother, Rachael Traylor and Julie Wahl.Headquartered in Washington, D.C., the American Advertising Federation is the oldest national advertising trade association. Representing 50,000 professionals in the industry, the AAF has a national network of 200 advertising clubs located in communities across the country.
