Buies Creek, N.C.-A construction project set to get underway at Campbell University this week promises to update the corners of Main Street and Leslie Campbell Avenue to create a welcoming new entrance.
Physical Plant Director David Martin said the university plans to spend approximately $600,000 on updating the entrance with new landscaping, entrance sign, lighting design and the reconfiguration of parking space.
“I think this is one of the best street projects Campbell has undertaken so far,” Martin said. “It’s going to add more to the campus than almost any other construction project because the location at the corners of Main Street and Leslie Campbell Avenue are the focal point of the campus.”
Martin said the project includes building a brick wall similar to that of Fellowship Commons, at the campus center, that will extend from the corner of Baldwin Hall to the intersection of Main Street and Leslie Campbell Avenue. Parking lots in front of Baldwin and Britt halls will be reconfigured to include more green space. Ornamental lighting and new landscaping will also be added, as well as sidewalks along these two main thoroughfares.
“The project will definitely add more color and define the edge of the campus,” Martin said. “It will also benefit prospective students by increasing parking space for the Admissions Office.”
The project is part of a Master Plan adopted by the university that has included the construction of the John W. Pope, Jr. Convocation Center, the Anna Gardner and Robert B. Butler Chapel and a new dormitory, Barker Hall, among others. It is expected to be completed in March 2010.
