Buies Creek – Dozens of Lundy-Fetterman School of Business alumni returned to Campbell University Wednesday, Sept. 22 for the sixth annual Alumni Recognition Day. Alums spoke to classes throughout the day, relaying their professional experience as business graduates and offering advice for current students regarding their academic and professional preparation.
“What we would like for students to be able to do, is in some way see their own future,” said Dr. Ben Hawkins, dean of the Lundy-Fetterman School of Business. “The idea is to bring in people who have graduated from the School of Business and gone on to successful careers. Then they can share with the students what took place at Campbell that has been important in their success in their professional careers.”
Speakers offered advice on job searches, professional behavior and career changes. Invited guests included recent graduates, graduates who have been in the workforce for quite some time, and even married couples who graduated from the School of Business.
Ever (’05) and Jonathan Owens (’03) returned to speak to students together. Ever says she recalls hearing from alums during Alumni Recognition Day when she was a student.
“I actually work with some of those same people now, so it’s all about the relationships,” she said. “I came back to help foster those relationships and develop a workforce of Campbell students. I work in Trust, so it’s important to keep those Campbell connections and relationships going.”
Simmi Prasad, who received her MBA from Campbell’s RTP campus in 2009, wanted to encourage students to take advantage of their time as students. “I miss the interaction with teachers, with students. It really broadened my horizons with so many things,” she said.
