BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell University President J. Bradley Creed oversaw his first commencement at the helm of the university on Saturday, Dec. 12, with Campbell Business awarding 119 degrees. In all, 92 undergraduate, 17 Masters of Business Administration, and 10 Masters of Trust & Wealth Management degrees were conferred.
“I am so proud of our graduates,” said Campbell Business Interim Dean Dr. Edward Fubara. “They leave Buies Creek on their way to careers and graduate schools around the world. I have seen many of them grow and blossom over the years. I am also proud that they leave Campbell well equipped, not only to make a difference professionally, but also prepared to be “salt and light” wherever they go.”
State Rep. David Lewis, a 1994 graduate of Campbell who has represented North Carolina's 53rd House District since 2002, delivered the commencement speech. Lewis quoted the Roman Catholic priest James Keller, who once said, “A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle.” He told the graduates to be a light in the world; to use their talents, education and faith to make a difference in the world.
“Go forth and love your neighbor,” he said. “Go forth and be the best son, daughter you can be … the best spouse you can be. Go forth and forgive with mercy. Walk humbly with a heart filled with service. Go forth with the confidence in the many things you have learned at Campbell, and be a light in and for the world. May God bless each and every graduate.”
Campbell Business hosted a reception for its graduates following the ceremony, and presented each graduate with a keepsake gift.
