Campbell Business sophomore goes viral

Campbell University 2016 Winter Commencement

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A Twitter account created by Campbell Business sophomore Matt Nelson has caught attention throughout the United States and all over the internet. Nelson, enrolled in the PGA Golf Management program, is the brains behind WeRateDogs (@dog_rates) which currently boasts more than 381,000 followers on Twitter.

“It's hard not to be successful when you put 80-plus hours a week into something you care about,” said Nelson. “Also, people really like dogs.”

The concept is incredibly simple yet fun. Nelson posts user-submitted dog pictures and videos with off-the-wall captions to entertain and interact with Twitter users. WeRateDogs was recently featured on NBC’s Today Show and profiled on Fox affiliates throughout the country.

“It’s exciting to see an idea from one of our students catch fire and become an internet sensation,” said Campbell Business Dean Dr. Kevin O’Mara. “Matt’s project just demonstrates you can reach the world with a creative idea right here at The Creek. We are happy for Matt to see something he started flourish and gain popular attention.”

Nelson is a native of Charleston, W. Va.
